Recently, I came across a classic story from Aesop’s Fables that really encouraged me. You may remember it—it’s called the…

The Hare And The Tortoise

One day a hare was boasting of his running speed and laughing at the tortoise, for being so slow. Much to the hare’s surprise the tortoise challenged him to a race.

The hare, looking on the whole affair as a great joke, readily consented. The fox was selected to act as umpire, and hold the stakes. The race began and the hare, of course, soon left the tortoise far behind.  The hare left the tortoise far behind!

Having reached the halfway point, and the day being warm, the hare decided to stop and play awhile. He then took a nap in a shady spot, thinking that if the tortoise passed him while he slept, he could easily overtake him

before he reached the finish.

The tortoise meanwhile plodded on, unwavering and unresting, straight toward

his goal. The hare, however, slept longer than he intended, and

when he woke up he was surprised to find that the tortoise was nowhere in sight.torotoise wins the race

Off he went at full speed, but on reaching the finish-line, found that the tortoise was already there, waiting for his arrival.

Moral: Slow and steady wins the race.

As an entrepreneur I have so many goals, dreams, and aspirations.

But as a stay at home mom and home school teacher I don’t have lots of free time to pursue all that’s in my heart.

However, with keeping the mindset that “Slow and Steady Wins The Race”, I am able to

fully embrace where I am in my season of life.

I have been given four beautiful children with whom I have chosen to stay home and home school. They are not a hindrance to my dreams—they are apart of them!

As a busy mother, I cling to the motto that slow and steady wins the race.

Here are some things that have helped me along the way:

1. Set Realistic Goals: Think big, be specific, but anchor them in some reality.

2. Set Realistic Time Frames: Examine whether or not you can actually meet your goals within the time frame you have set. There have been many times I have needed to extend the time–some goals I have extended 1 month, 3 months to a year!

“There are no such things as unrealistic goals, only unrealistic time frames.”

Power of Focus

3. Embrace Your Present: You may not be able to pursue your goals and dreams 100%,

but you can do things to prepare yourself and increase your value. For example you can

take a class, participate in a mentor program, read books, write an article, listen to audio tapes, etc. The idea is to be ready when the opportunity comes knocking at your door!

4. Don’t Compare Yourself to Others! Your life is your life. Your situation is your situation. Your dream is your dream. Don’t get discouraged when you see other people moving at a faster pace—Stay focused and keep it moving! And always remind yourself that “Slow and Steady Wins The Race!”

An enterprising person is one who comes across a pile of scrap metal and sees the making of a wonderful sculpture.

An enterprising person is one who drives through an old decrepit part of town and sees a new housing development. An enterprising person is one who sees opportunity in all areas of life.

To be enterprising is to keep your eyes open and your mind active.

It’s to be skilled enough, confident enough, creative enough and disciplined enough to seize opportunities that present themselves… regardless of the economy.

A person with an enterprising attitude says, “Find out what you can before action is taken.”

Be Prepared. Do Your Research!

Do your homework. Do the research. Be prepared. Be resourceful. Do all you can in preparation of what’s to come.

Enterprising people always see the future in the present. Enterprising people always find a way to take advantage of a situation, not be burdened by it.

And enterprising people aren’t lazy. They don’t wait for opportunities to come to them, they go after the opportunities.

Enterprise means always finding a way to keep yourself actively working toward your ambition.

Look at the world differently!!

Look at the world differently! Take A Different Approach!

Enterprise is two things. The first is creativity. You need creativity to see what’s out there and to shape it to your advantage.

You need creativity to look at the world a little differently. You need creativity to take a different approach, to be different.

What goes hand-in-hand with the creativity of enterprise is the second requirement: the courage to be creative. You need courage to see things differently, courage to go against the crowd, courage to take a different approach, courage to stand alone if you have to, courage to choose activity over inactivity.

And lastly, being enterprising doesn’t just relate to the ability to make money.

Being enterprising also means feeling good enough about yourself, having enough self worth to want to seek advantages and opportunities that will make a difference in your future.

And by doing so you will increase your confidence, your courage, your creativity and your self-worth, your enterprising nature.

To Your Success,

Jim Rohn
